Flybox Farm Types

From a Starter Farm to the 360 Farm with all 5 modules, or more—we build insect farms to fit your needs. We help you determine where to start, and provide the platform to scale.

For businesses just starting out. Process waste and make insect products immediately. Leave the complex parts of insect-farming, like breeding and offtake, to us.

The Starter Farm

Perfect for beginners looking for an easy way to start producing protein in-house consisting of one Grow® and one Waste® unit. Subscribe to insect and/or waste delivery and we’ll help you find a supplier of seedlings and/or a source of pre-mixed, ready to go, accredited insect feedstock for the simplest process.

The Scaled Farm

A logical second step. Once you’ve found your feet, additional Grow®, Lab® and Waste® modules can stitch together to help you scale your insect production and process more waste. Whether you need more protein, you’ve found a place in your supply chain, or the market for what you make; we help you realise your insect agriculture opportunity.

For businesses that want to breed Black Soldier Flies. These self-contained structures allow you to focus on the upstream parts of the Black Soldier Fly life cycle.

The Mini Breeder

Perfect for beginners in colony management: one BREED® and one HATCH® to manage an end-to-end, climate controlled breeding population of Black Soldier Flies. The HATCH® doubles up as a larval and pupal growth space for the egg laying population.

The Seedling Factory

Perfect for those needing a larger space to grow out a colony. Multiple Breed® units, a Hatch® unit and a biosecure Lab® lets you scale up your breeding activities or acts as a R&D space alongside your larger production areas. Increased emphasis on automated nursery management to reduce labour around repeat entomologist and technician tasks. Can be configured to provide a biosecure access point to the breeding area.

For businesses that need scale. A combination of modules and additional components built bespoke to your needs.

The 360 Farm

Perfect for businesses making a larger move into the BSF market. Build a bespoke insect agriculture system with 20+ modules, to manage up to 20,000 tonnes of organic waste per site.

The Tropical 360 Farm

Perfect for businesses in tropical or subtropical regions making a larger move into the BSF market. Build a bespoke system with 20+ modules to manage up to 20,000 tonnes of waste per site.

Use our breeding technology to manage your colony and efficiently grow out space suitable for the local climate.

Which Setup Is Right For Me?

Insect farms have a number of components: from waste handling and processing, to nursery management and waste conversion. Whether you’re looking for something simple to suit a specific need or a more comprehensive solution, we’ll help you get started or scale up.

Flybox Modules

Modular. Scalable. Ready-to-go. Each Flybox® has a crucial role to play in any insect farm.

Each Flybox® comes with unique technology, multiple potential loadouts, and in different combinations to suit your needs. Our versatility differentiates us from the other insect farms out there.

Insect Farm Types FAQs

The standard building block of all our individual Flybox Modules is a high-cube 40ft shipping container. The dimensions are approx. L12 m X W2.4 m X H2.7 m. When arranged together we also recommend certain clearance around each module for airflow and accessibility, contact us if you have a site in mind and want to receive site drawings or assessments.

The running costs will vary depending on several factors. Typical costs associated with insect farming are power, labour, waste logistics, breeding costs / BSF seedling supply rental and financing costs. Our Flybox containers have a max power draw of 5-8 kW depending on the module but average power usage will depend on the outside climate, the feedstock / diet utilised, the number of cycles you run and your other commercial objectives. Contact us if you’d like to estimate these costs with our commercial team.

Each Flybox module requires access to power (single or three phase). A 25mm potable water supply may also be required depending on the module you are considering. Lastly, you may want to build your farm outside in which case you need to ensure it has access and suitable groundworks / corner posts around the container for loading. Site engineering costs can therefore be minimal depending on your site. Contact us if you have a site in mind and want to know what else exactly may be required to prepare the site for a Flybox Farm.

Our equipment is heavy duty and made for industrial usage with very few moving parts. We have designed our equipment to be robust and able to last many years without any replacement costs. We also provide warranties for different parts of the modules. Yearly maintenance varies depending on the module you are considering but there is a maintenance schedule we supply each owner with. We can also offer a maintenance contract depending on your location and we always provide remote monitoring and send alerts if we believe you should check something.

We take quality standards extremely seriously at Flybox. Our tech is meant to last many years, with minimal maintenance but it needs to be assembled correctly, regardless of your location. We take full responsibility for manufacture, logistics, assembly, debugging and training your operational team. Essentially you point us to the exact location you want your Flybox farm and we make it appear there fully functioning. The only parts left to you are any site preparation works along with electric and plumbing labour to connect the utilities to the modules. We do not offer a DIY option.
